  1. I remember seeing Rogana performing live when, as a boy of six years old in 1962, I was taken to see Bertram Mills Circus in Bellahouston Park in Glasgow. A true professional, her act was so finely presented : timing, costume, music and lighting as well as her striking finishing flourish of throwing both sword and dagger (used in balancing the tray of glasses with which she ascended and descended a silver upright ladder) into a board brought in by a ring boy to prove, beyond doubt, just how sharp and potentially dangerous these props were. I was mesmerised and intrigued. These feelings were there for me in relation to so many fine artistes – acrobatic, comedic, and equestrian – in that quality show.
